Obligatory Terrain Post

So quite a while ago we received our kickstarter package of caverns from Dwarven Forge.  Thanks to Stefan Pokorny's how-to videos, my wife, daughters and I were able to transform the indestructible pieces of dark gray dwarvenite into a magical realm of wonder on my gaming table.

Painting as of Late

The first three are almost done.  Lots of other works-in-progress.

Custom Mini for Pajar

At my Tuesday game, I really liked the character concept Scott came up with.  Pajar is an oracle with the oracle's curse of lameness.  Instead of having a bad leg, however, he is just very overweight, which affects his ability to walk.  When I found the balloon boy mini in the dollar bin this weekend, I just knew I had to try to make a mini for Pajar.  I emailed Scott for a description, and he let me know he wore mostly gold with magenta and blue accents.  In play, I had already learned of the turban he wore and the mace he used. (Click to embiggen pictures) Top Left is Balloon Boy So balloon boy got disassembled, glued to a 1 inch washer, and I added a mace.  The mace started out as a large warhammer, but I cut the two hammer heads off, and it looks very mace-like now. Mounted, with a mace, and some paint starting to layer. Now balloon boy was plastic and molded with color which made getting paint to stick a challenge.  I wou...

Miniatures In Progress

I've gotten quite a collection of unpainted miniatures over the last couple of months, so work is underway to get them paint.  As I've mentioned before, I use the dip method to paint.  So here's my cluttered little work table: One of the miniature sources is the Tentacles and Eyeballs Kickstarter from Dark Platypus Studio which provided pieces to build these little guys: I've also got some other miscellaneous miniatures (mostly reaper, I think) underway: My painting style usually takes a couple of weeks per miniature, though I regularly have 6 to 12 miniatures underway at a time.  Each day I paintone or two colors per miniature.  Once I get the whole miniature the colors I want, I then go back and do touchups until I get them to the quality I am comfortable with. I did have one major oversight on the Tentacle and Eyeball miniatures -- I primered the clear rods that many of the minis mount to.  Though this was something I ov...

I feel like I am really starting to improve, both in my mini painting and in my mini photography.

Rats: My First Minis

So I used the dip method outline here: http://geekdo.com/geeklist/43744/the-dip-method-a-step-by-step-guide-to-painting-mi I still need to add the satin finish (they are a bit too shiney).

Robot Chicken D&D and Other Stuff

Our little group has been watching the videos of the Robot Chicken D&D group adventure in D&D 4. http://www.d20source.com/2010/02/robot-chicken-dd-jaundice-and-the-ballista I particularly like the DM commentary. I was particularly proud of the girls today when we visited our local RPG store.  The girls were able to name off what we were playing, including version. I am starting the trek into miniature painting.  So far so good.
